He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!” But as He came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, He began to weep. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes. Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side. They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not accept your opportunity for salvation.” Then Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people selling animals for sacrifices. He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.” After that, He taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill Him.But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word He said.
Luke 19:40-48
“But Ian haven’t you covered Luke 19:40-42 before? Why do you include those verses again. Haven’t we covered them already?” Well the fact that I have included them again in a slightly rearranged packet should tell you something. See what you can make of the connections. They are all strategically linked together. Remember this is Luke writing. Not only that, but if you compare this account with the other Gospels you will see you have a problem to solve. But for the moment this is all I am giving you. I have given you some long Gems lately so time for a short one. I am delighted with some who have told me that they have taken the opportunity to dig for themselves. Some have looked back in order to fully understand things for themselves. Highly commendable. Then there are those who have told me they have spent the time looking at what’s ahead in the absence of input from me. I wonder what they are finding.
See if you can work out why I have grouped these verses together in a different way and also see if you can find the problem you need to address in this passage. Ok that is all for today. Have fun.
