I finished the previous Gem with the comment, What a sad little report! Does this remind you of other sad reports in the Bible? There have been a few people respond to my question and offered different examples of sad little reports. So clearly you get the idea. The one I was thinking of at first was the report of the 10 spies after they came back from the exploring the promised land but yes there are more. Well done those of you who found them.
This segment is interesting in that we have seven verses spent on the introduction, six verses used for the report of the two disciples regarding the things that have happened in Jerusalem in the last few days and only three verses used to cover all that Jesus told them. Does that make you think? Do you have questions? I am sure you do. It is worth listing your questions for these three verses. I am sure one of them will be: So what did Jesus say? Why can’t we have the detail of what He said? What Scripture did He use to explain all the things concerning Himself? Was there a recording made of what Jesus said? Can I get the CD or the better yet the DVD? And what does it mean: starting with Moses, all the prophets, and all the Scriptures? If He took them through all the Scriptures which give an explanation of what the Messiah would suffer before He entered His glory, then why didn’t Luke spell it out for his readers? Namely ME?
I suspect you know what I am going to say now. See how well you can explain from the Scriptures all that Jesus explained. Can you do it? Do you know the sections to which Luke refers? Do you know the significance of Luke’s overall description of Moses, all the prophets and all of Scripture? Do you know the detail of what is meant? I will leave you to work it out. The last question is how long should I give you to do that? Is the time between Gems enough? – I e. until tomorrow? Or do you need longer than that? Talk to me and I will respond accordingly.
Are there other questions which come to mind that you want answers to?
Here I some questions of mine:
