Constructions that require attention:
Promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy writings – proepangello 1) to announce before 2) to promise before. How God announced the promise, through the holy writings.
This is what has been promised for centuries. It all has to do with the Gospel (the euangelion) of Good News, the Christ story and what it means to mankind. That is why this Good News is so good. It is the story of why Jesus / God came and how He saves mankind and what we have to do about it.
Regarding his Son . . . i.e. His credentials
“according to the flesh he was a descendant of David” He fulfils all the requirements of genealogy and fits perfectly what the Scriptures have declared about him.
“according to the spirit of holiness“ declared to be the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead” (this sentence needs more attention) i.e. Jesus Christ our Lord
It is through Him we received grace and apostleship to bring this “gospel” to bring about the obedience of faith among all the gentiles. Ponder this and decide for yourself what it means. If you need help go the commentaries in E-Sword and see what they say.
And you Romans are among those who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.
You are loved by God and you are Saints. (Holy in His sight)
Grace and peace to you
Do some thinking about these 7 verses in the light of what you have found in the words you have researched and pondered and then try to follow the thread of what Paul is saying. We need to understand the words and then connect them together to see where the author is going with this thought. Take time now to chew on this Introduction. There is depth in it even though it is just an opening to the letter. Notice how Paul adds to the standard opening other elements that are in his mind and which are in line with his theme and what he wants to say in the letter. After all that is what introductions are for, aren’t they?
The gospel is only good news if we are willing to share it, and get it to those who need it in time.

Too many of us have become preoccupied with our material well-being. Instead of believing God for the salvation of our loved ones, we’re believing Him for houses, cars, holidays, and so on.

We’re supposed to seek the kingdom of God first and foremost, and all these other ‘things’ will be added to us.

In fact, we don’t even have to ask for them, they’re automatically given to us when we put God’s kingdom ahead of our own.
