Isn’t it interesting that John 4:7, 8 are side by side. (Ha ha, you say that is because 8 follows 7 Ian.) but you know what I mean.
- John 4:7 . . . Jesus said to her, “Please give Me a drink.”
- John 4:8 His disciples had gone into the village to buy food (τροφὰς from τροφη trophe) . [Noun]
Then notice these verses:
- John 4:31 Meanwhile, the disciples were urging Jesus, “Rabbi, eat [something]. ” [Verbal form]
- John 4:32 But Jesus replied, “I have food (βρῶσιν from βρῶμά) you know nothing about.” [Noun]
- John 4:33 “Did someone bring Him food [ – ie something to eat] while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other. [verbal form]
- John 4:34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment (βρῶμά) comes from doing the will of God, who sent Me, and from finishing His work. [Noun]
Big things are happening behind the text.
- The disciples had gone into town to buy food (τροφη). Jn 4:8
- Jesus said “My food (βρῶμά) is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”
Trophe
- is the basic staple,
- every day food. (potatoes, rice chappati, taro)
- Every day food equal to earning a crust.
Broma
- has the sense of the “essence of life”.
- It is the word that Paul uses when he talks of the “meat of the Word”.
- This is where the KJV gets the sense of “meat” from.
- What is your focus? Is it every day “earning a crust”?
- Or is it the deep things of God?
- What turns you on?
The most impressive Christians are the ones who don’t try to impress.
