So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
1 Corinthians 15:58
There are some who think this is Paul’s closing statement to First Corinthians? What do you think? Maybe you don’t care. “Whether it is the close or not it doesn’t matter to me” I hear you say. Some people have told me I ask too many questions and dwell too long on things. Just give us the short version Ian. I would not be able to give you the short version unless I looked first at the long version. It is necessary for us to check out all the detail first to see where the links and where the emphasis is. It is important to know, is this Paul’s closing comment on 1 Corinthians or not? If it is or if it is not determines the context in which we must read this verse (1 Cor 15:58).
So now it is time for you to do some work again and sort it out in your own mind. What is in Paul’s mind when he makes this comment? Is this supposed to be his close to the epistle? Then after he has made it he has an after-thought. There are some who think that. They think there is no real closing comments found in 1 Cor 16 so therefore his comment in this verse must be his closing comments to the epistle. What do you think? It makes a difference what we think because it will determine how we interpret this verse and what we connect it to.
Do a little digging on the verse itself too, using what you know to do already through the Bible Gems. More in the next Gem!
