Let me add here I know what I am talking about but from the other side of the fence. I was an atheist when I first met Tania. We were going out together for two and half years and then got engaged. After buying the engagement ring Tania had returned to faith in God, then reading 2 Cor 6:14 was convicted by it. She knew she should not marry me unless I was a Christian. What to do? [Maybe it can all just work out. Maybe once we are married I can persuade him/her to accept Jesus] Tania was convicted by that verse and knew she had to tell me she couldn’t marry me unless I was a Christian. But she also knew I was a hard headed atheist and there was no way I was going to fall on my knees and accept the Lord in order to marry her. And besides she didn’t want that anyway. She didn’t want me deciding to become a Christian in order to marry her. Not a good basis of decision making. What was she going to do? In March 1973 she told me she couldn’t marry me unless I was a Christian and showed me the verse she had read.
What did I do? I was true to her predictions. I didn’t fall on my knees and ask “what must I do to be saved?” I said, “OK if that’s the case, it’s over. Give me the ring back. I am not becoming a Christian in order to marry you.” I took the ring and walked. I lasted three weeks. Then the common sense that is uncommon hit me, I had a genius moment and realised what I had to do. No not fall on my knees and accept Christ. I would return to her. I knew she was the one I wanted to marry and so I would show her that this God stuff was nonsense. That was my mission should I choose to accept it. (I didn’t realise then that it was mission impossible. I was fighting God not just Tania) God brought Tania a new boss and he would build her up when I would try to knock down her faith. That went on for 6 months until 19th August 1973 I became a Christian. God honoured the commitment Tania made to 2 Cor 6:14. He will do it for you too. If it means you lose the guy or girl you are going with at the moment, believe that God has someone better in store for you.
