Greg Pagallia was a radio broadcaster with FEBC. He had a particular ministry of linking people with Christians to meet their need. He also provided a service for non-Christians in villages. For those who had no phone he would announce by radio when family members would arrive in remote villages. Many from the majority religion would listen to the programme for this reason. As a result many ended up listening to the Gospel.
Greg was warned by the Abu Sayyadh who sent him a letter telling him if he didn’t stop this programme he would be killed. They sent him a second letter when he ignored the first. Finally a third letter came which said, “This is the last letter – if you don’t stop we will come and kill you.”
At 1.30 pm one afternoon, five armed men barged into studio and shot him dead. The radio operator was shot dead too. There had also been a man in the studio who had become a believer and was there to give testimony. They killed him too.
Greg said the day before he died, “We should all be ready for martyrdom. Am I willing to die for my faith when a statement has been made that I can’t go along with?”
