Bible Gem 63 - Another Miracle - to show the power of God (John 9)

March 10, 2019

In Chapter 9, John continues the themes. He / Jesus uses another miraculous sign (9:16) to show the power of God (9:3).

Notice the links to earlier comments and themes and connections to the Feast of Tabernacles:

I am the light of the world (vs 9:5) – remember this is happening at the Feast of Tabernacles where Light is a theme.

The Pool of Siloam/Siloah (vs (9:7, 11) – remember water was taken from the Pool and poured out as part of the ritual.

John hasn’t deviated from his key themes:

Who is this Jesus? Where does He come from?

Joh 9:16  Some of the Pharisees said, "This man Jesus is not from God, for He is working on the Sabbath."                                                                                                                                    Others said, "But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?" So there was a deep division of opinion among them.

Joh 9:17  Then the Pharisees again questioned the man who had been blind and demanded, "What's your opinion about this man who healed you?"

The man replied, "I think He must be a prophet."  so they called in his parents.

Joh 9:27  "Look!" the man exclaimed. "I told you once. Didn't you listen? Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become His disciples, too?"

Joh 9:29  We know God spoke to Moses, but we don't even know where this man comes from."                                                                                                        Joh 9:30  "Why, that's very strange!" the man replied. "He healed my eyes, and yet you don't know where He comes from?

Joh 9:33  If this man were not from God, He couldn't have done it."                                                                                                             Joh 9:34  "You were born a total sinner!" they answered. "Are you trying to teach us?" And they threw him out of the synagogue.

Believe in Hiim

Joh 9:18  The Jewish leaders still refused to believe the man had been blind and could now see                                                                                                                                                        Joh 9:35  When Jesus heard what had happened, He found the man and asked, "Do you believe in the Son of Man? "

Joh 9:36  The man answered, "Who is He, sir? I want to believe in Him."                                                                                                        Joh 9:37  "You have seen Him," Jesus said, "and He is speaking to you!"

Joh 9:38  "Yes, Lord, I believe!" the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

Joh 9:39  Then Jesus told him, "I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind."                                                                            Joh 9:40  Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard Him and asked, "Are You saying we're blind?"

Joh 9:41  "If you were blind, you wouldn't be guilty," Jesus replied. "But you remain guilty because you claim you can see.

Wow hard hitting and to the point. John is sticking to his theme. When he said all these things were written . . . he sure meant what he said.

And what about this miracle – Ian has started and finished a whole chapter in one Bible Gem.
