You say, ‘Four more months and then harvest.’ But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the fields are ripe now and ready for harvest!
John 4:35
What is behind this verse? What is Jesus saying here.
Would it interest you to know that Galilee was known as the granary of Israel? [Ha Emeq] When Jesus told them they were going to Galilee I bet they thought, wow we are going to see more amazing things with this man. Galilee was famous for two harvests a year, indicative of both crops and people. Interestingly there were four months between the harvests in Galilee. It seems they were heading up there for the second harvest. So Jesus’ comment about there being four more months before harvest makes sense.
- What are you focused on now?
- What is the next planned activity in your church?
- When is the next harvest expected?
- Every day is harvest with Jesus.
But note Jesus comment once again in the light of this new information and the questions I have asked.
You say, ‘Four more months and then harvest.’ But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the fields are ripe and ready for harvest now! Notice I have moved the word “now”.
Be ready in season and out of season. You never know when God will call on you to be involved in a soul coming to new birth. Jesus wanted the Disciples to be involved but they missed it because of their prejudices. The woman did the work of bringing the Samaritans to faith. Don’t miss your opportunity. It may be today.
It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
