Read these references which indicate that Jesus and the Father are one. Notice how the strength of each statement builds in intensity.
While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, He called out, “Yes, you know Me, and you know where I come from. But I’m not here on My own. The One who sent Me is true, and you don’t know Him. But I know Him because I come from Him, and He sent Me to you.”

Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father! So why are you asking Me to show Him to you? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak are not My own, but My Father who lives in Me does His work through Me. Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen Me do.

Consider the Vine illustration as an expression of the unity of the body and the oneness with the root as well.
I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe You sent Me. I have given them the glory You gave Me, so they may be one as We are one. I am in them and You are in Me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that You sent Me and that You love them as much as You love Me. Father, I want these whom You have given Me to be with Me where I am. Then they can see all the glory You gave Me because You loved Me even before the world began!
John 17:21-24
Don’t forget all the ‘I AM’ sayings. They indicate that Jesus and the Father are one too. Our unity together as His people reflects the oneness and unity in the Godhead. But of course when it is absent among us how glaring the absence. This is important to the Lord. Our unity demonstrates that we have been sent by Him and His glory will be seen. Our love for each other will demonstrate we are His disciples.
Two major tests of our demonstration of Christ’s life within us:
- our love for each other
- our unity.
How are we doing?
