- The second is the verb παριστανετε from παρίστημι, [paristēmi] παριστάνω [paristanō] meaning to stand beside, that is, (transitively) to exhibit, proffer, recommend, substantiate; or (intransitively) to be at hand (or ready), aid: – assist, bring before, command, commend, give presently, present, prove, provide, shew, stand (before, by, here, up, with), yield.
Neither present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as one living from the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God. For your sin shall not lord it over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace.
Rom 6:13-14
- In this case the verb is transitive (meaning with object) not intransitive (without object). Meaning in this case it takes an object. – i.e present your members, present yourselves. So we can remove the intransitive meanings from the list above. Namely stand beside, to be at hand, be ready, aid, stand (before, by, here, up, with).
Note that in offering ourselves or the parts of our bodies we are actually substantiating our KNOWING. It is the outworking and act of actualising our knowing. So once again we KNOW, We RECKON and then we OFFER. It is a progression of thought and action that helps us to realise the victory over sin.
- So don’t present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin
- Rather present your members (as) instruments of righteousness to God
Because you are not under law. So don’t let sin lord it over you. Live by (the law of) Grace. A whole new way to do it. Be free to not sin. Having a different thinking in mind allows you to conquer the temptation to sin. If you are a true Christian you cannot return to sin in the way you may have previous to your life change. You can still sin; in fact you do sin. Remember 1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” He will bring conflict to your soul and spirit so that you cannot enjoy it as you once did. Remember you have been transferred from Adam to Christ. You are no longer in Adam (the old man) you are now in Christ (the new man). There is nowhere else for you to go but forward in righteousness.
The Knowing . . . Reckoning . . . Offering theme here is a mirror of the Sit . . . Walk . . . Stand theme of Ephesians ( á la Watchman Nee)
Namely:
“which He worked in Christ in raising Him from the dead; yea, He seated Him at His right hand in the heavenlies”
Ephesians 1:20
“for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God before prepared that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10
For this reason, take up the whole armour of God so that you may be able to take a stand in that evil day. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm. Stand firm, therefore . . .
Ephsians 6:13-14
It is the same pattern: we move from knowing our position in Christ to working it out practically in our daily walk to intentionally through an act of our will standing firm on the doctrine we have grasped.
What you are speaks so loudly that I can’t hear what you say. What do you communicate before you say a word?
