Green – shared word for word
Yellow – approximate or stylistic
Blue – unique to each writer
I have coloured green everything that is shared word for word across the accounts. Sometimes the green portions are full sentences other times they are just single words. Where the correspondence is approximate or stylistic I have coloured it yellow. The blue segments represent the elements that are uniquely different from the other two accounts. At a glance this gives you a broad picture of the changes and comparisons. Use this time to study the account to see where Luke or Paul himself have added to the speech or the account as compared with other times Paul gave his testimony. It is very revealing.
Take the time to look at the above detail and see what stands out to you. Look at three verses across the references to the light in all three three examples of Paul’s testimony to see how this comparison can help you.

As I pointed out in the last Gem, Paul telling us that the encounter with the risen Christ happened in the middle of the day adds considerable significance to the light which shone on him. For the light to be apparent in the middle of the day under a high sun on the road to Damascus it would have had to have been brighter than the sun. Now you have to admit that is a highly important fact. So why does Paul make sure that fact is included in his address to the crowd on the steps leading from Temple Court to the Tower of Antonia (the Roman Fort) in Jerusalem? A fact made even more clear when addressing King Agrippa. No doubt the light was the reason Paul was blind for three days. All very important information that we need to pick up on. Now you can search for little nuggets of gold before we continue with our comparison in the next Gem.
We consume our tomorrows fretting about our yesterdays.

It is for those reasons in the quotes above that having just been told I have prostate cancer I will rest in His peace that passes understanding and press on to fulfil His high calling on my life.
