Bible Study Tip: Get the big picture first then sort out the details. When you get the big picture the little stuff falls out by itself.
If you understand what is in the author’s mind on the big picture level and where they are heading with what they are saying then the small stuff takes care of itself. Don’t sweat the small stuff. To understand John you need to look for his theme words and find out what he is on about. John tells you his purpose plain and simple.
But these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 20:31
What are “these things” that John is referring to?
Wow that is stacked with some important things to find out.
His statement of this major theme is to believe that Jesus is the Christ, [not that Jesus surname is Christ] Son of God, and that by believing we will have life in His name? Ask your self what that even means? I am not going to spend a long time on each concept but will hit the highlights in the next few days. But at least now you know why the book was written and what John’s gospel is all about.
Go do some thinking about it.

One of the greatest verses written for us by the Apostle John. My mind often stops right after reading that verse and wonders back to beginning of John 1:1, In the beginning was THE WORD. I often encourage young believers to chew on the Gospel of John for the first thirty days of their conversion.
Jesus, I believe you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God! Hallelujah, Amen!
