I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display His wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 3:9-10
- What is the mystery to which Paul refers?
- What is it about all this that’s a mystery?
- How exactly is it mysterious?
Take time to investigate this word “mystery” and determine what it refers to.
Take time to think about what Paul is saying here in these two verses in order to gain an idea of the scale of the grand plan of God. They say everyone likes a good mystery. In this case it is not a “who done it?” We know Who. That part is not the mystery. It is God. God is the One who has done it. But you will still have to be a detective in a spiritual game of Cluedo. Who? With what? Where? When? I can tell you it is not Colonel Mustard in the Ballroom with the dagger. But you will have to work out the rest. What exactly has God done? And why did He do it?
There is gold in these two verses but you will need to dig for it. I will leave you for a day to do that.
Nothing is interesting, if you’re not interested.

Mystery is another name for our ignorance; if we were omniscient, all would be perfectly plain.
Tryon Edwards
All is mystery but he is a slave who will not struggle to penetrate the dark veil.

It is completely unimportant. That is why it is so interesting!
