Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Ephesians 4:1-2
Whenever you see a therefore, ask what it’s there for. What is Paul referring to when he uses the logical conjunction “therefore”?
- What is the connection between these two verses?
- What follows?
- What has gone before it?
Time for you to read and do some thinking. Remember the chapter boundaries were put in “on horseback”. So take the time to ascertain where Paul’s thought process for what we call chapter 4 is connected? We will check out the options tomorrow, but like I have told numbers of classes or group or audiences you will learn and remember the most when you are the one who has done the work. Nothing comes easy, and if it does then it is easily lost too.
I have given you some long Gems over the last days so it is time for a short one. Maybe some of you have to catch up from the days before, as I was told last night. Well this will give you some time to do that. Time even to go back and look at those past Gems I referred to in order to get a better handle on what Paul is meaning.
People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered. LOVE them anyway.

When you cannot get the things you like, why not try to like the things you’ve already got?
