Well how did you get on? Do you realise Jesus is doing the same thing again as we saw him do with John 10 and the reference to Good Shepherds / Bad Shepherds. I thought I would give you a chance to see if you have grasped the way to do it yet? Where did you look for the connection and the clue to help you solve the puzzle? In the Old Testament, right? Yes but where? If you have a concordance then you would look up the words in question – “green” and “dry”. If you are using E-sword then simply type the words in question into the Bible search panel. Click <Bible> on the top menu bar, then click on Search and type in the words you are wanting to search for. Look for passages where the two words are together. What did you find?
The other way is to use a Study Bible with a cross reference system. Let someone else do the work for you. This will give you a reference to Ezekiel 20:47. Now go and read the passage surrounding it. Read the sense unit. Don’t stop at the chapter boundary because you know already that Robert Estienne put those in rather arbitrarily in 1550. Read the whole segment until you get the sense of it. Don’t just read Ezekiel 20:47. That is what we normally do, don’t we? Remember that in the Beth Midrash a verse or a word may have been used but it was to be the pointer only and was used to suggest the total section, the whole passage was expected to be known and understood.
Ok now it is your turn to do it. See if you can solve the puzzle. This is a hard passage. Give it a go. Trust yourself and the Holy Spirit to give you the solution.
Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly.
