Last week I pointed out some of the repetitive motifs or themes of the Mazzaroth like the Messiah / Christ-like figure, the adversary or satanic figure, the theme of sacrifice and the way in which the constellations of the Mazzaroth are grouped. This week I want to draw your attention to something else. Another couple of groupings and themes as well as some fascinating links to constellations which reflect or embody the themes they depict. Following which I want to highlight another feature of the Mazzaroth related to its polarity. Whether I can fit all these features in this one Nugget we shall see.
The first of the themes or motifs is the way in which the people of God continually appear in the heavenly signs. The first, most obvious one, is found in Pisces and its connection with Aquarius and the river of life-giving water. I have told you when we looked at the constellation of Pisces that for centuries the sign of the fish has been a universal sign of the Body of Christ or Christians. I have clipped the following segment from the Nugget on Pisces:
From the First Century AD until today the sign of the fish has been a sign for Christians. The Greek word ichthus which means “fish” is also a mnemonic for: Iesus Christus, ‘Uios Theou Sotēr meaning “Jesus Christ Son of God Saviour”. It was used in Roman times as a symbol of Christians and it is still true today. When I became a Christian in 1973, the sign of the fish was everywhere.
Likewise God’s people pop up everywhere in the 48 signs of the Mazzaroth. We find the children of God here in Pisces fully representing the people of God. But we see them appear in Gemini, Taurus and Leo. They are there as fish, sheep, goats and the twins and in the names of individual stars in those same constellations. They are present in the form of Andromeda (the chained woman) and Cassiopeia (the enthroned woman) but they are also present as the redeemed, the protected flock or herd of God and as the seed of the woman and in the bear in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. They are present again as the redeemed assembly who are still clinging on to their Saviour in Cancer. This is not a coincidence but appears to be a deliberate, continuing motif, which matches the motifs of the Redeemer figures who always hold on to them or protect them and the motifs of satan which seek their harm.
Some of you have noticed another repetitive theme or motif and have commented on it or asked questions about it. The dualism that is present often when the people or God are present. I first spoke about it in Pisces. Again I quoted from what I wrote in the Nugget for Pisces. Why two fish?
There are two views of the meaning of two fish:
1. Two classes of Christians: Those looking to heaven and those looking to the world, the latter of which will be saved but with the smell of fire on them..
2. Those saved before Christ’s death burial and resurrection and those saved after His act of redemption.
Much more could be said at this point but I will resist the urge to explain more. If you have questions feel free to ask. (and some of you sure did ask questions)
Note also the dualism is not limited to Pisces alone. Andromeda (the chained woman) appears also in Pisces and is linked to Cassiopeia (the enthroned woman) found in Aries. Do you detect the way the links connect throughout. Many times a theme introduced in one constellation continues on to the next one. Hence I suspect it is deliberate that Andromeda, the chained woman, is connected with Cassiopeia, the enthroned woman. These women are symbolic of the church (as seen in the book of Revelation) but they are also linked to Christians and once again depict the dualism which repeats when related to the people of God.
Note the dualism is there with earth bound Pisces and the heavenly Pisces. It appears again in the Twins (Gemini) and again in the kid goats or dogs of Canis Major and Canis Minor and also in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor (the great and lesser Bear) and in the lesser and higher sheepfold of Cancer. Ursa Minor is called the first born of heaven and Ursa Major is known as the “resting place of the flock”. Asellus Borealis and Asellus Australis, the she-ass, appear in the constellation of Cancer – those who are holding on to their Saviour. Well you have to admit some of us Christians are like sheep and some of us are like goats and yet others are like donkeys (she-asses).It is not a chance happening; through repetition God is drawing our attention to it.
Now I need to draw your attention to another feature of the Mazzaroth and I think I will close with this, for this Nugget. If you remember I introduced you to Praesepe (the multitude) in the constellation of cancer along with the centre or the hinge point in the form of Cynosura also in the constellation of Cancer – those who are the multitude, the collective assembly, the ones who are hanging on and awaiting their Saviour, their Coming Judge. I wrote in the Nugget on the constellation of Cancer the following:
Prasaepe is one of the brightest nebula in the skies; it is often mistaken for the head of a comet.
Called in modern astronomy “the beehive”, it’s a collection of innumerable stars – exactly the idea expressed in the Scripture relating to the descendants of Abraham. (Gen 22:17, Gal 3:16) .The people of God are innumerable, more than the stars in the sky or the sand on the seashore. God is serious when He keeps using this analogy.
Now let’s return to something else I told you in the comments on Cancer – Asellus Borealis and Asellus Australis – the she-asses – both straddle Praesepe. A parallel idea to what is expressed in Pisces with the northern and southern fish bound to the lamb with cords. Here again as in Pisces there appear to be two classes of the redeemed bound together. Allow me once again to repeat as God repeats the message here.
For we are God’s co-workers. You are God’s farmland and God’s building. As an expert builder using the grace that God gave me, I laid the foundation, and someone else is building on it. But each person must be careful how he builds on it. After all, no one can lay any other foundation than the one that is already laid, and that is Jesus the Messiah. Whether a person builds on this foundation with gold, silver, expensive stones, wood, hay, or straw, the workmanship of each person will become evident, for the day of judgment will show what it is, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s action. If what a person has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If his work is burned up, he will suffer loss. However, he himself will be saved, but it will be like going through fire. (1 Corinthians 3:9-15)
It is true that there are two divisions of those who will be saved: the two fish (heavenly and earthly), the higher and lesser sheepfold, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, Canis Major and Canis Minor, Gemini – the Twins. Concerning the two Bears (Ursa Major) is sometimes known as “the domesticated one”, Dubah (Hebrew), Dubheh (Arabic) tamed, redeemed or saved. The other is “the wild one”.
I think it is time for me to stop. Although I could continue, I have said enough for you to get the message and to pick up on the patterns that God has hidden amongst the stars for us, in order to convey to us some important lessons. The polarity and patterns in the Mazzaroth spell it out clearly and make it obvious to us. It all fits together in quite an astounding way. Like everything God is behind; of course there is much more which could be said.
I will leave it there for now and in next week’s Nugget we will examine the polarity and the patterns of it all further in what may well be the last of the series on the constellations of the Mazzaroth per se. But even after the next Nugget we have still something else to examine before we leave the heavenly bodies God gave us for signs and seasons.
Take some more time to read over what I have given you above in order to get your head around it. I have been pondering these things since I first heard about the Message in Stars in an evening service in Matamata Baptist Church way back in 1975. I can tell you it is all rather deep and meaningful. I keep adding detail each time I take another look at it or investigate it all further.
